americorps life week 2

Hi everyone!! i'm a little late on this blog, I am sorry, its been a busy week, done tons of stuff so this should be a pretty long post. So last week we went to camp mendicino, which is a camp deep in the redwood forrest about 4 1/2 hours from campus and it was a good experience for the most part. It rained pretty much the whole time while we were down there, but hey that just added to the adventure! We did some team building exercises and even had a chance to do some zip lining and take on a rope coarse that was in mid air! It was a lot of fun and I was pretty proud of myself and my team for accomplishing the mid air rope coarse because it was pretty challenging. We did a rock wall to but I dont want to talk about that, I did horrible, it was embarrasing. But after camping out of a couple of days we made it back to campus where we continued our training. We actually went on a mini spike this week, whats a mini spike you ask!?!?!...well a spike is slang for volunteer work that we do outside of campus. For our mini spike we did some good ole gardening. We helped weed and clean up these gardens that were used to provide fresh vegetables for those who need it. My team hustled through it and we did a great job, it was a good experience and it was good to actually get out there and do something good for the community. Now for the fun stuff!! the other day I went to the worlds largest corn maze(in 2007 lol) and I made it out in no time! And thats not all, I also did some volunteer work for the sacremento kings foundation. They held this event called "Rhythm & Rims" where they had a run for charity and a little fair where they had tons of cool activities. My job there was to motivate the runners and provide refreshments. It was a pretty easy and fun job. And afterwards I had a chance to hang out at the fair and meet the sacremento kings cheerleaders. I took pictures with them and they even signed my shirt, it made my day! But this week I got 2 more mini spikes to do and some more training so it is going to be another busy week, which is good because I like to keep busy. Anyways thats all for now folks!! tune in next time and I will tell you more about my adventures!!

1st Week of Americorps Training

Hi guys, Today marks the 1st week anniversary of my arrival to the Americorps NCCC campus in Sacremento, California. From day 1 I felt like I belonged and that hasnt changed a bit. I feel so comfortable here, like I can actually be myself and people accept me. I have met a lot of great people this week and made a lot of friends. My team, silver 3, is without a doubt the perfect team for me. The people on that team are great, willing to work, friendly and we just all have a bond that keeps growing each day. It is going to be a great 10 months working with them, we are going to have tons of laughs and great memories. As for Sacremento itself, it is beautiful down here, its hot and sunny everyday, I dont miss the New Hampshire weather at all and the city itself is amazingly clean and beautiful. But for the 1st week we have had a lot of training and I mean a lot. Our typical day goes like this, wake up around 5 am and dont usually get done until 5 pm, so a good 12 hour day...we have physical training for an hour, multiple meetings and every now and then we will do some interactive stuff like this week our team went to this adbandoned mall for a reinactment of a natural disaster. I had to play dead for 4 hours and it was a challenge because if you know me you know that I can't stay still for long.  But I did it and it was a great experience. And next week we are going to this camp for 3 days to do team building exercises which I am really excited for. Our team is going to bond even more and we are going ot have a good time. So all in all Americorps NCCC has been everything I expected and more. I'm having the time of my life and I am honored to have this experience. I can't wait to tell you all about my upcoming adventures, as for now thats it, so stay tuned for more! I will have plenty of stories to tell you
