americorps life week 3-4
Hey guys, sorry about the late post, been crazy busy so haven't really had anytime to write, but I didn't forget about my commitment to write a blog! So a lot has happened since the last post. I graduated from our training, which is great because if I can survive training than I can survive anything!!! Then after we graduated it was such a crazy fast transition to doing our first round. My first round is helping wiht construction of a housing unit for Habitat for Humanity of Seattle-King County. So we had a little graduation ceremony, packed, than immediatly left for a 13 hour ride to Snoqualmie, Washington where our housing is at. We live in this nice two story house and in this nice little neighborhood. So far I have been in Snoqualmie for a week and it has been a good experience so far. The work is alright, like we are always doing different things which is good because it keeps it interesting. For the first day I did a lot of chaulking of the windows and outside of the buildings, then the next day I did a lot of painting on the outside and than I did some yard work, helping out clean out weeds and mulch trees. So the work varies and its a lot of work, like we work from 8-4:30 and when I'm all done I am absolutly exhausted; especially the days that we have to do physical training at five in the morning. I am not going to lie; I have been really stressed out this past week; but I just got to tough it out and keep on pushing on! But I love the work so far; what I like best about it is the people that we work with. We get to work with other volunteers and they are amazing. They are all very friendly and personable. They love what they do and are very easy to get along with. We had this big volunteer event the other day where a huge group of people came out to help out and that was awesome. It was definatly the best work day so far. I met a lot of great new people and made a few new friends along the way. It was such a wonderful experience that I won't forget. And our round one sponsor has been amazing. He is such a nice and genuine guy. He has done a lot for us so far and always makes sure that we are involved in the mission of Habitat for Humanity. I can't say enough good things about him and the volunteers that we work with. But it hasn't all been rainbows and sunshine. We are all pretty stressed out so our ability to tolerate eachother has dwindled a little bit. I'm not trying to say that we aren't a close group its just we are kind of butting heads a little more than normal. But thats apart of the deal, when you live in a tiny house with 12 other people there are going to be some disagreements and such. Theres been nothing serious but the energy/mood of the group isnt what it was like at campus. But hey its the first week so that is expected. We are starting to getting use to the schedule and the whole new situation so I think that week two will be a lot better! I got to admit that I personally have not been myself and I feel bad about that. I have been letting the stress and the fact that I miss home a lot get to me. But luckily I got a day off tomorrow and then just got to work for three days before we get five days off for thanksgiving break. In the meantime I just got to stay motivated and focused!!! Anyways thanks for reading my post and I will keep you guys posted, hopefully at a more consitent rate.
